| Just a good ol' country boy |
|
Born in Faulkville, Georgia, as a young boy, Keith made his singing debut in his home town church. This, then rural, area of Effingham County became his first stage. By his teen years, Keith was ready to add his own touch to his vocals. For $200.00, he bought his first guitar from his cousin, Kris Love. At the time Kris was fairly new to playing the guitar, but still knew his way with tunes. Keith, on the other hand knew nothing. He had played instruments in middle and high school, none of which included the guitar. So, the two cousins jammed together until Keith learned the basic cords. With only the ability to read the music learned in school, which again, did not include the guitar, it would have appeared that Keith had his work cut out for him. But, this was not the case. Along with his raw talent of vocals, Keith was blessed with a great ear for music. Listening to and playing along with his favorites, Keith picked up the art of guitar very quickly. Practice, practice and more practice came regularly. Singing and playing with along with music of the great singers of the time, Keith became a wonderful self-taught guitarist. Still, today, Keith can not read guitar music. But never you worry. He can play with the best of them…and he does.
Being a true home-grown young man with great family support, Keith knew his love of music would one day be his reality. But meanwhile, he had to make a living for himself and later his two beautiful children. He began working in construction. Soon, he built a successful home remodeling business to help support him and the children while continuing his music career.

Playing local gigs with the band, during the early years and some here recently, Keith has worked with some great local musicians. All, of which, he is proud to call his friends. Early on, the band’s name was The Lighting Creek Band. In the Cavalier days, it was the KGB, The Keith Gay Band. Today, we enjoy the great music of Blackwater Station. As the years have passed, some members have moved on, as some have joined the group. But, Keith is still close with them all.
Blackwater Station Members:
